Ruto, CSs Make Fresh Government Appointments
President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have made fresh appointments and reappointments to various government boards, councils and public institutions.
The appointments were announced through a Gazette Notice dated September 4, 2026, covering key institutions in agriculture, science and technology, education, water, labour, defence and enterprise development.
President Ruto appointed Henry Gichuhi Kinyua as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Coffee Board of Kenya.
The President also reappointed Dr Geoffrey Mutai as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Council.
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi appointed Prof Vasey Mwanja as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, meanwhile, reappointed Michael Waititu Maina as a member of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority.
ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo appointed Richard K. Makenga as a member of the Board of the Information and Communications Technology Authority.
Kabogo also appointed Evalyn Koiyan and Bevin Angellah Bhoke as members of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba appointed Stephen G. Chacha as a member of the Council of the Kenya Education Management Institute.
Ogamba also appointed Ismael Ali Abdullahi and Abdirahman Noor Hassan as members of the North Eastern Polytechnic Council.
He further appointed Wilson A. Mtai as a member of the Kisiwa National Polytechnic Council.
Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui appointed Joyce M. Njogu as a member of the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute.
The institute plays a role in supporting industrial research, technology development and innovation in Kenya.
Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya appointed eight members to the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority.
They are Tobias Ouma Alando, James Kaburu, Wesley Kipkirui Siele, Margaret Gitonga, Timiro Adan Ibraham, Lucia Ndunge Kivila, Susan Nandwa and Adams S. Barasa.
The appointments come as the government continues to focus on supporting micro and small enterprises as part of its wider economic development agenda.
Cabinet Secretary for East African Community (EAC) Affairs, the ASALs and Regional Development Beatrice Askul Moe reappointed Capt. (Rtd) Augustine Ekitela as a member of the Kerio Valley Development Authority.
The authority is responsible for coordinating development programmes in the Kerio Valley region.
Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eric Muuga made several appointments and reappointments to boards and councils in the water sector.
Muuga reappointed Peter Nunda Mutisya as a member of the Board of the Water Services Regulatory Board.
He also reappointed John Billy Momanyi and Cecilia Ngetich as members of the Board of Directors of the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency.
Muuga appointed Fozia Ali Ibrahim as a member of the Board of the Water Resources Authority.
He further reappointed Marselino Malimo Arbelle as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Water Sector Trust Fund.
Hassan Ahamednur Baricha was appointed as a member of the Governing Council of the Kenya Water Institute.
Defence Cabinet Secretary and Chairperson of the Defence Council Soipan Tuya appointed Amaris Wanjiru Njoroge as the Secretary of the Kenya Defence Forces Pensions Assessment Committee.
The committee handles matters relating to the assessment of pensions for members of the Kenya Defence Forces.
Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua reappointed several members to the National Labour Board.
They include Dr Francis Atwoli, Jacqueline Mugo, Charles Kireru, Dickens Ouma, Moss Ndiema and Atie Swaleh Ramadhan.
The National Labour Board advises the government on labour and employment matters and plays a role in consultations involving workers, employers and the state.
