Ruto, CSs Make Fresh Govt Appointments

President William Ruto has made several new appointments and reappointments to key government boards and institutions, as published in a Kenya Gazette notice dated February 6, 2026.

The President appointed retired Lieutenant General Walter Raria Koipaton as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Forestry Research Institute for a three-year term.

He also appointed George Kithi as the Chairperson of the Sports and Arts Fund Board for three years, effective February 6, 2026. In another appointment, Major General Alphazard Muthuri Kiugu was named Chairperson of the Anti-Doping Agency for a similar term.

Mahmud Jan Mohamed was appointed Non-Executive Chairperson of the Council of the Kenya Utalii College, while Rina Chatrath was named Chairperson of the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration Board. Both will serve for three years.

President Ruto further appointed Patrick Mukundi Mbogo as Chairperson of the Warehouse Receipt System Council for three years, effective February 6, 2026. The appointment of Felicity Nkirote Biriri was revoked.

Joseph Lagat was also appointed Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Board.

In the same gazette notice, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen reappointed Yakub Rashid Abdullahi as Chairperson of the Firearms Licensing Board for another three-year term. Murkomen also appointed Ibrahim Mugetha Ndung’u as a member of the same board.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi Ng’ongo reappointed Rachel Putani Leyian as Chairperson and Member of the Trustees of the Kenya National Entrepreneurs Savings Trust (KNEST) for three years.

Mbadi also appointed Fidel Muema Peter, Kanini Purity, Josphat Tingos Kiprotich Ngeny, Priscilla Ndindi Musyoka, Kennedy Awino Ariembi and Bernard Muya Mukundi as Chairperson and members of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management. James Mwaniki Nthiga was also appointed to the Board of the Local Authorities Provident Fund for three years.

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano appointed Wuapari Cicilia Saayioi and Tabitha Murigi as members of the Council of the Kenya Utalii College. She also appointed Anne Nyawira Ngugi as a board member of the Wildlife Research and Training Institute.

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi appointed Charles Oduor Ogada as Chairperson, alongside Ruth Jemutai Rop and Josephine Kirion Eregae as members of the Council of the Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas National Polytechnic.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba appointed David Wamatsi Omusotsi as Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Biosafety Authority. He also appointed Prof. Hellen Sambili as a member of the Commission for University Education and Joyce Chepkirui Sigey as a council member of Kabarnet University College.

Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya appointed George Kithi as a board member of the Sports and Arts Fund Board.

Gender, Culture and Children Services Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo appointed Charfano Guyo Mokku as a member of the National Heroes Council for three years, effective February 6, 2026. The appointment of Gitu Kahengeri was revoked.

Lastly, Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir appointed Benson Mwaniki Njeru as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
