Ruto mourns former President Moi’s physician David Silverstein
President William Ruto has mourned Dr David Silverstein, the long-serving personal physician of former President Daniel arap Moi, describing him as a distinguished doctor whose contribution to medicine touched many lives.
In a statement on Sunday, Ruto said Silverstein played a pioneering role in the advancement of medicine in Kenya, particularly in cardiology.
The President said the physician leaves behind a lasting legacy of service to the country and the medical profession.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the medical fraternity following the passing of Dr David Silverstein, long-serving personal physician to the late President Daniel Arap Moi,” Ruto said.
“At this moment of sorrow, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. May they draw strength from the remarkable life he lived and the enduring legacy he leaves behind,” he added.
The Moi family also confirmed Silverstein’s death, remembering him as a compassionate doctor who made a lasting impression on the people he treated.
KANU chairman Gideon Moi described Silverstein as a physician who cared for his father with exceptional attention to detail, empathy and dignity.
“To him, Mzee Moi was not merely a client. He was a human being whose health, dignity and wellbeing mattered deeply to him,” Gideon said.
He said Silverstein took time to listen to and understand his patients while bringing warmth and humanity to his medical practice.
“His care and friendship will always be remembered with gratitude,” Gideon added.
Gideon extended his condolences to Silverstein’s family, led by his wife, Channa Commanday, and expressed gratitude to them for allowing the physician to care for Moi throughout his health journey.
