Safaricom’s Bob Collymore Is Back After A 9 Month Cancer Treatment
Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore is back to the country after spending close to one year in London.
Bob Collymore has been out for the past ten months. He left work on October 30, 2017 to “receive specialized treatment for a number of months.”
Word had it that the British businessman was suffering from leukemia (cancer of the blood) hence the rigorous medical procedures in London.
But the CEO resurfaced via a video link on May 9, 2018 during the release of the company’s full year results.
“I have just entered the final phase of treatment and expect to be back in Nairobi as soon as doctors feel that my immune system is sufficiently robust to withstand the infection risks that are usually associated with airline travel,” he told investors.
Making the announcement on Monday via Twitter, he thanked the University College London Hospitals (UCHL) team and his wife Wambui Kamiru for the support.
I'm back. Thanks to everyone who supported me over the past 9 months especially the clinical team at @UCLH, my superb @SafaricomPLC team and of course my wife @WambuiKamiru

Move to thank wife might have been necessitated by claims that he has been cheating on her. Bob Collymore is known to be romantically involved with Safaricom’s Head of Enterprise Services, Rita Okuthe.
