After months of Public Outcry,  the Office of Director of Public Prosecution seems to have taken action on a case involving a senior Safaricom Limited Manager.

The ODPP_KENYA this afternoon on their twitter account confirmed that Sylvia Mulinge the Company’s  Consumer Business Unit Director will be arraigned in court on 20th November to plead to charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

In a protest letter to the ODPP by Suyianka Lempaa and Company Advocates dated 28th February 2017 which was highlighted by blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, It was reported that on 1st of February, 2015 Sylvia Wairimu Njugua Aka Sylvia Wairimu Mulinge was the driver of the motor vehicle registration number KBU 483M, A Toyota Prado, Along the Southern-By- Pass in Nairobi when she negligently drove, managed and/or controlled the said motor vehicle and caused it to hit Mary Kusa Etale (Deceased) who sustained Serious Injurious.

” The said Motor Vehicle was registered in the name of Safaricom as at the time of the said fatal accident which was reported at Lang’ata Police Station and recorded in the occurrence book as Number 3/01/02/2015 ” reads part of the Letter.

The letter also concludes that the  Lang’ata Police Station Officers Failed, neglected and or/refused to conduct thorough investigations and/or take any legal action against Wairimu despite the fact there was a prima a facte (based on the first impression; accepted as correct until proved otherwise) offense of causing the death of a minor Mary Kusa Etale.

By virtue of being the Company’s  Consumer Business Unit Director, Mulinge is technically second in command after the CEO. She is believed to have entered into an out of court agreement with one Zacharia Etale Elwanga and Caroline Nasike Nanjala believed to be kin of the deceased for the payment of Sh950,000.

Eye witnesses claim Mrs Mulinge was speeding while overtaking a stationary truck at the time of the accident which happened in an area known as “Raila Village.” It is intimated that Ms. Mulinge enjoyed the protection of her boss Bob Collymore and the duo believed to have conspired to cover up the accident with the intention of protecting the exposure of Ms Mulinge as a reckless/careless driver.
