A Samburu primary school teacher among the five other female teachers attacked by pupils over harassment has shared her experience.
Learners of Kirimon primary attacked their teachers with rungus saying they had disrespected their culture by punishing boys in front of girls.
Teacher Jane Gachohi said on Thursday that the boys forced her to kneel down and then caned her. She sustained injuries to her thighs.
“They hit my knees with a rungu. They wanted to kill us,” she said.
The Samburu teacher said she was on her way back from a washroom when she saw more than 15 boys beating up her colleague.
She said she was cornered as she tried to hide behind the toilets.
The teacher said she pleaded in vain for the pupils to let her go.
“I even lifted up my hands,” she said and thanked a class eight pupil who begged the boys to let her go saying she did not teach their class.
“One pupil pleaded with the boys to stop beating me and asked me to run as fast as I could and hide in a nearby church.”
Five female teachers were ambushed and beaten by the pupils on Monday.
