Security teams recover more than 700 stolen livestock in Marsabit, Isiolo

Multi-agency security teams have recovered more than 700 goats, sheep and other livestock following a series of raids in Marsabit and Isiolo counties, as security agencies intensify operations to track down suspected bandits.

In Marsabit County, security officers recovered 470 goats and sheep on Sunday, August 9, 2026, following a livestock raid in the Galgumbe area of Loiyangalani Sub-County.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), a multi-agency team pursued the suspected attackers after the raid, forcing them to abandon the animals and escape into the rugged Ruai Hills.

Security operations remain active in the area as officers pursue the suspects, work to restore calm and search for additional livestock that may have been stolen during the raid.

“The National Police Service commends the multi-agency security team for its coordination and quick response, which led to the successful recovery of the goats and sheep,” police said.

The NPS urged members of the public to report suspicious or criminal activities to security agencies to support efforts to combat livestock theft and other crimes.

In a separate operation in Marsabit, officers from Bubisa Police Station and Shurr Police Post recovered nine stolen animals following a joint operation involving security officers, National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and members of the local community.

The animals, comprising five donkeys and four cattle, were recovered in the Lalesa area after they were reportedly stolen from Loglogo.

The recovered livestock were taken to Shurr Police Post, where they are being kept pending identification and eventual handover to their rightful owner.

Meanwhile, in Isiolo North Sub-County, a multi-agency security patrol team recovered 249 sheep and goats following a livestock raid at Malka Boji water point.

The animals were reportedly stolen on Saturday, August 8, during an attack by armed bandits targeting livestock belonging to a local resident.

Security officers tracked the suspected raiders into Losesia area in Samburu East Sub-County before intercepting them at Daraja ya Mungu.

The operation resulted in the recovery of 249 sheep and goats, which were driven to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) camp in Gotu for safekeeping.

Local administrators and security agencies are coordinating the identification and handover of the animals to their rightful owner.

Security patrols have been intensified across the affected areas as officers pursue the suspected bandits and work to recover any remaining stolen livestock.
