Tragedy struck the police fraternity when a senior police officer based at police headquarters, Vigilance House, collapsed and died in his house in Chesumei, Nandi County.
Philip Kipchirchir Tuimur was an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the National Police Service based at police headquarters at the time of his death on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
His family confirmed the death.
The family said he was pronounced dead at a local hospital where he was rushed to.
Police said hey were informed by family members that the deceased collapsed and fell unconscious while at his home in Kabutie area of Chesumei sub-county at around 5am.
They rushed him to hospital facility where he was declared dead on arrival.
His body was moved to a local mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
Tuimur had served in various ranks in the General Service Unit (GSU) before he reached his rank of AIG.
His colleagues described him as a dedicated officer. Others said he was a good man.
He held various high-ranking positions, including a role at the General Service Unit (GSU) headquarters.
He also served as Regional Police Commander in Coast, North Eastern and Eastern before being recalled to the headquarters.
He was among officers who had been removed from the service during vetting by the National Police Service Commission before being reinstated by the court.
Tuimur was a celebrated officer who focused on his police work all the time.
Inspector General of police Douglas Kanja described him as a dedicated officer as he mourned the death.
