Seven-year-old boy drowns in dam while grazing cattle in Nyandarua

A seven-year-old boy drowned in a dam in Nyandarua Central Sub-County after he reportedly slipped and fell into the water while grazing livestock with two other children.

The incident occurred at a dam near Stage One along the Passenga-Ol Kalou route on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at about 3.30pm.

The incident was reported by a boda boda operator who was travelling towards Passenga Trading Centre when he encountered a crowd gathered near the scene.

Upon making inquiries, the rider was informed that the boy had drowned in a dam located about 10 metres from the road.

Preliminary investigations established that Brian had been grazing livestock with two other children when he slipped and fell into the dam.

Efforts to rescue him were unsuccessful.

Police officers processed the scene before the boy’s body was removed and taken to a hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.

Investigations into the drowning incident are ongoing.

Elsewhere, a one-year-eight-month-old child drowned in a borehole in Khalwenge village, Endebess Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County, after he was left playing with other children

The incident was reported on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at about 7pm.

Police said the child drowned at Khalwenge village, approximately 10 kilometres south of Endebess Police Station.

Initial investigations established that Ryan’s mother had left him playing with other children while she went to a nearby shop to buy items.

When she returned, she reportedly found her son floating inside the borehole, while the other children were crying for help.

The mother immediately pulled the child from the borehole, but he had already died.

Police said the body had no visible physical injuries.

Officers processed and photographed the scene before removing the body and taking it to the Kijana Wamalwa Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.

Police have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s drowning.
