The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs announced the appointment of Severine Luyali as the new Chief of Protocol in the State Department for Foreign Affairs.

She takes over from Henry Wambuma, who has been redeployed to serve as Kenya’s Ambassador to Burundi.
Luyali brings to the role a wealth of experience, having served in the Ministry for over 25 years.

During her distinguished diplomatic career, she has held several key positions that have given her a deep understanding of institutional operations and international engagement.

Known for her professionalism and extensive expertise in diplomatic protocol, Luyali is expected to bring continuity and renewed focus to the Protocol Department.

Her appointment marks a significant moment in the Ministry’s leadership transition, especially within a department critical to managing Kenya’s international diplomatic engagements, state visits, and ceremonial affairs.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony, Samson Koech, Deputy Chief of Protocol, extended heartfelt appreciation to Ambassador Wambuma for his dedicated service.

“Amb. Wambuma has served with excellence and integrity. We thank him for his leadership and commitment,” said Koech.

He also pledged his full support to Luyali, expressing confidence in her ability to steer the department forward.

Wambuma’s new posting to Burundi comes at a time when Kenya continues to strengthen its diplomatic ties in the East African region.

His vast experience is expected to further advance Kenya’s strategic interests in the region.
