SHA Dismisses Claims Of Unpaid Hospitals, Confirms Sh3.4 Billion Disbursed

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that some hospitals have not received payments from the authority.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 20, SHA Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mangangi said Sh3.4 billion has already been disbursed to contracted health facilities across the country.

“The Social Health Authority (SHA) has disbursed Sh3.4 billion to health facilities nationwide for Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) claims for inpatient care, drugs and substances abuse cover, mental wellness, critical care, and surgeries,” the statement read in part.

SHA singled out Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital, which had been mentioned online as among the facilities that had not received any funds. The authority clarified that the hospital had already received Ksh19 million between January and June this year.

“In response to a list circulating on social media, SHA clarifies that Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital received KES 19 million for inpatient long stays and maternity services for the period January to June 2025,” the statement added.

The hospital also confirmed receipt of the money, discrediting the claims. SHA insisted it remains committed to ensuring timely payments, accountability, and transparency in managing funds.

Apart from the Sh3.4 billion allocated for treatment, SHA said it had disbursed an additional Sh1.09 billion through the Primary Health Care Fund. Another Sh1.7 billion is currently being processed for special treatments including dialysis, oncology, and surgical claims.

The authority also released an updated list of health facilities that have already received the payments.
