Shaedon Sharpe is a Canadian professional basketball player who plays as a shooting guard for the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA.

He emerged as a consensus five-star recruit during his high school years.

He initially attended H. B. Beal Secondary School before transferring to Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas and later Dream City Christian School in Arizona, where he gained national attention for his impressive performances.

Sharpe has played in 112 NBA games, averaging 11.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.

His performance has shown significant improvement over his seasons, particularly during the 2023-24 season when he averaged 15.9 points per game before undergoing abdominal surgery in February 2024.

    Siblings

Sharpe has two siblings, an older sister named Amari Sharpe and a younger brother named Nishayne Sharpe.

He is the second child of Julia Bell and Robert Sharpe. The Sharpe family shares a close bond, with both parents actively supporting their children’s athletic pursuits.

Throughout Shaedon’s upbringing, his parents played a crucial role in nurturing his passion for sports. They often drove long distances to ensure he received the best coaching and training opportunities.

    Career

Sharpe had an unconventional path in both college and professional basketball.

After emerging as a consensus five-star recruit, he committed to the University of Kentucky in September 2021.

Initially expected to play during the 2022-23 season, Sharpe reclassified to enroll early and joined the Wildcats in January 2022.

However, he did not play any games for Kentucky, instead using his time to train and prepare for the next level.

On April 21, 2022, Sharpe declared for the NBA Draft, foregoing his remaining college eligibility without ever stepping on the court in a collegiate game.

Sharpe was selected as the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers.

He made his NBA debut on October 19, 2022, scoring 12 points against the Sacramento Kings and showcasing his scoring ability early on.

During his rookie season (2022-23), he played in 80 games and averaged 9.9 points per game, with a breakout performance on March 29, 2023, when he scored 30 points in a single game at just 19 years old.

The following season (2023-24) saw Sharpe take another step forward in his development. He averaged 15.9 points per game over 32 games before undergoing abdominal surgery in February 2024.

Despite this setback, Sharpe returned to training camp in September 2024, demonstrating resilience and determination to continue improving.

    Accolades

Sharpe has received several accolades throughout his basketball career, particularly during his high school years and early professional career.

He was ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2022 recruiting class by major recruiting services such as ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports.

During his time at Dream City Christian Academy in Arizona, Sharpe showcased his scoring ability, averaging 22.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in the 2021 Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, where he led the event in points scored.

He was also named First Team All-Circuit and received the Circuit’s Player of the Year award.

Additionally, he represented Canada at the 2019 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship, where he averaged 13 points per game and helped the team secure a silver medal.

In the NBA, Sharpe has continued to make a name for himself.

He has recorded multiple games scoring over 20 points, including a notable performance where he scored 30 points in a single game during his rookie season.
