Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has warned against the publication of material that could incite Kenyans.

He was referring to an audio titled “Wetangula exposed in fake gold scam” that went viral on Friday evening.

According to the DPP it is alarmist to share such information. He asked Kenyans in possession of this kind of information to submit it to the relevant authorities.

“Such claims and their circulation through social media and specifically, leaked phone recordings in today’s age of real time boderless publishing are alarmist and may needlessly cause disaffection. Until all facts are obtained and analysed it is irresponsible to publish such material to the public,” a statement by Haji reads in part.

Without mentioning the individuals involved in the scam, Haji said that the victims have reached out to him and are willing to cooperate with authorities to expedite the investigations.

Haji further explained that he has ordered the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to forward investigation files within seven days after which he will take appropriate action.

In the recording, the man assumed to be Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula invokes the names of President Uhuru Kenyatta, CS Fred Matiang’i and former Prime minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking in Endebess however, Deputy President William Ruto asked opposition players to stop dragging the head of state’s name through the mud.

“I tell our brothers in the opposition not to import their bad habits to Jubilee; they should shun engaging in dirty deals, corruption and coning others.

These people who are political conmen turned business conmen should carry their cross alone,” Ruto said.
