Tundu Lissu, a Tanzanian Mp who was shot last week has contracted a life threatening chest infection at the Aga Khan Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

The Tanzanian legislator is said to have been put on a life support machine following the infection.

According to the Chadema Secretary General, Dr Vincent Mashiji, Lissu’s legs sustained serious injuries and treatment would take longer.

”Mr Lissu is very sick, we need your prayers and his treatment may take too long because of complications of injuries sustained,” Mashiji told reporters in Dar Es Salaam.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Job Ndugai had prior to Mashiji’s report said that the legislator’s condition was improving.

Prof Abdalla Safari, Deputy Chairman Chadema party said they did not trust the local police looking into their colleague’s shooting incident.

”We do not trust our government and police officers that they will be impartial or thorough in investigating what we regard as assassination attempt.”

Many have linked the assassination attempt on the controversial Mp to his constant criticism of President John Pombe Magufuli.

The Tanzanian Mp was shot and seriously wounded in Dodoma around his area of residence, Area D on 7 September.
