Siaya MCAs Held Hostage By Rowdy Youths For Rejecting Governor Rasanga’s CEC Nominees

Siaya County Assembly

Members of the Siaya County Assembly were on Tuesday held hostage by rowdy youths for rejecting nine candidates nominated by Governor Cornel Rasanga for county executive posts.

The MCAs were stuck in the county assembly offices for close to 30 minutes.

At around 8pm, the youths camped outside the offices vowing not to let the ward representatives out until they passed the names proposed by the Governor.

There was chaos as the sergeant at arms was forced to shoot in the air to disperse the crowd. The youths are said to have thrown stones and broken windows.

According to Sylvester Madialo, Usonga Ward Rep, the names were rejected as they were not fit for the positions they were nominated for.

“This means that the governor is at liberty to realign his nominees as per their qualifications,” he said.

Mary Omondi was the only name passed as Education CEC.

Governor Rasanga nominated Oburu Odinga’s, Jaoko Oburu Odinga son as Tourism CEC, something that did not sit well with the Ward representatives.
