Sifuna ousted as Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Eddy Oketch takes over

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been removed as the Senate Deputy Minority Whip following changes effected by the Minority coalition leadership.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi on Thursday formally communicated the changes to the House, saying he had received the relevant minutes together with a list of members who signed the petition seeking Sifuna’s removal.

Kingi told senators that the changes had met the procedural requirements and were therefore effective immediately.

“The new office holder with immediate effect is Senator Eddy Gicheru Oketch,” Kingi announced.

Migori Senator Eddy Oketch now takes over the position of Deputy Minority Whip, replacing Sifuna with immediate effect.

The leadership changes come amid ongoing political realignments within the Minority coalition in the Senate. Further details on the reasons behind Sifuna’s removal are yet to be officially communicated.
