Jakakimba in his defense said that he visited Harare during a public rally held by opposition party MDC that is headed by Nelson Chamisa, a presidential candidate. He said that his mission was to convey a goodwill message to the party from Raila Odinga who has been a close ally of the opposition party in Zimbabwe formerly headed by the Morgan Tsvangirai.

He denied working as a strategist for the MDC Alliance, and is currently in his rural home in Kakimba village Homabay county.

Zimbabwe held their elections on August 1 where Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared the winner by the Zimbabwean Electoral commission who said that he garnered 50.8% of votes against 44.3% for opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.

President Uhuru Kenyatta already joined other leaders in congratulating the new president stating that he would work closely with president Mnangagwa.
