At least 15 people were arrested in Nairobi on Tuesday after attempting to stage a protest over rising fuel prices, as police moved swiftly to prevent disruptions in the city.

Anti-riot officers intercepted the group near the Archives area as they tried to march toward the Central Business District.

The individuals were bundled into a waiting police vehicle and taken to Central Police Station for processing.

Nairobi Police Commander Issa Mohamud said officers engaged the group as part of efforts to maintain order, adding that the situation across the city remained largely calm.

“We have arrested a few people who tried to disrupt peace near Archives,” he said.

Authorities reported that most parts of the country remained peaceful, despite online mobilization efforts calling for demonstrations against the high cost of fuel. The protests appeared loosely organized, with no clear leadership.

Police also dismissed reports of disruptions along Mombasa Road, particularly around Mlolongo. Michael Sang, the DCI boss in the Eastern region, confirmed that traffic was flowing normally.

Morning rains in Nairobi further dampened turnout, while heavy police deployment in key urban areas discouraged potential demonstrators.

Police commanders in Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret, and Nyeri also reported calm conditions by midday, with no significant incidents recorded.

No major incidents were reported in the areas, police said.
