    Solomon Gichira, Independent candidate vying for the country’s top seat on Friday pulled out of the hotly contested race, 17 days to the general elections.

    Gichira who tried committing suicide at the IEBC offices after his nomination papers were rejected, said he will be supporting President Kenyatta’s re-election bid.

    Mr Gichira has been in and out of court following the commission’s refusal to accept his papers.

    The race now has seven contestants with the main two competitors being Jubilee’s Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA’s Raila Odinga.

    Gichira has given up on his ambitions to head the country only 17 days to the elections.
