A 23-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly killing his father in a shocking incident in Sigowet Sub-County, Kericho County.

According to police, the suspect walked into Sondu Police Station in the early hours of Tuesday and reported that he had assaulted his father, 47-year-old Philemon Kipsang Kobel, leaving him dead inside their home in Kamogon Village, Tabaita Sub-location.

Officers, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and a local village elder, proceeded to the scene where they found the house locked from the outside.

They forced entry and discovered the lifeless body of Kobel lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased had sustained three deep cuts to the back of the head, suggesting a violent attack.

Police processed and documented the scene, recovering a blood-stained jembe believed to be the murder weapon.

The body was moved to Sigowet Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

The suspect was immediately detained at the station and is expected to be arraigned at the Kericho Law Courts on Tuesday.

Investigations into the circumstances and possible motive behind the incident are ongoing.
Elsewhere, a shooting incident involving a Kenya Wildlife Service officer in Seme Sub-County, Kisumu County, has now been upgraded to a murder case following the death of the victim.

Winnie Anyango, 19, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday at around 1:39 a.m.

Police confirmed that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the hospital later in the day, where they were informed of her death. Her body has since been preserved at the facility’s mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

The suspect was detained at Kombewa Police Station.

Earlier on Tuesday, investigators obtained custodial orders at the Kombewa Law Court, granting them 13 days to complete investigations into the incident.

Authorities have now officially reclassified the case from a shooting incident to murder as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
