Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko last night, Monday, went to Kenyatta National Hospital to secure the release of a woman and her baby who were being held at the facility over a Ksh56,000 bill.
The county boss acted after the story of the baby’s father, Bonface Murage Wangechi, came to the spotlight after he was arraigned in court and charged for attempting to smuggle his daughter out of hospital in a carrier bag, defrauding the hospital.
Posting on his Facebook page, the governor noted that he had settled the bill as well as taken the mother and her baby for shopping.
“After visiting Kenyatta National Hospital for the release of Agnes we are now doing shopping for the mother and her innocent child,” the governor posted.
He further noted that his office is following up with Boniface’s, the father, story who is still in police custody.
“He is only 22-years and jobless but the love for his daughter forced him to mess the law just like any father. He pleaded guilty and the court is set to sentence him tomorrow. The man never involved himself in crime or unlawful deals,” Sonko expressed.
Celebrated BBC Africa journalist Larry Madowo also divulged that he had spoken to his lawyer who will in turn represent Boniface in court.
“I’ve spoken to Charles Liewa who will represent him pro-bono,” Madowo stated.
