The salaries and Renumeration commission(SRC) has vowed to move to court to block  the members of parliament bid to increase their salaries after passing a legislation that will see them get a housing allowance.

SRC says housing needs for MPs have already been covered in their gross pay; Sh 250000 housing allowance is illegal.

“Public Service Commission acted illegally. We will move to court to stop payments, recover monies already paid out.” SRC Chair Lyn Mengich.

The commission has said that they will recover Sh830 million paid to MPs in house allowances.

“The SRC has noted the media reports about the payment of house allowance Members of Parliament by the Parliamentary Service Commission. Article 260 of the Constitution categorises Members of Parliament as state officers and as such, payment of any remuneration and benefits, which have not been set or advised by the SRC is in violation of the Constitution,” SRC said.

The Kenyans tax payers will have to shoulder an extra Sh104 million to pay for MPs who are already entitled to a mortgage scheme.
