Sudan’s President Omar Al Bashir has declared a State of Emergency, dismissed the federal government and sacked all state governors after the recent citizens protests against him

The demonstrations were triggered by cuts to bread and fuel subsidies in December but later fueled by anger at Bashir’s 30-year rule..

The protests were stopped police and Bashir stated that they were aimed at destabilizing the country. More than a thousand protesters have been arrested with 40 feared dead.

Sudan’s National Security and Intelligence Services (NISS) had earlier said that Bashir would be stepping down.

“I announce imposing a state of emergency across the country for one year,”I announce dissolving the government at the federal level and at the provincial levels.” he said

He also made two presidential decrees appointing appointing army and security officers to govern the country’s 18 provinces.

He also announced that five members of the outgoing cabinet, including the foreign, defence and justice ministers, would keep their jobs.
