Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in the Rift Valley Region arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered a large consignment of cannabis following a dramatic pursuit along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.
The incident occurred on March 14, 2026, when officers on routine patrol flagged down a blue Toyota Voxy, after it aroused suspicion.
The driver defied orders to stop and sped off, prompting a high-speed chase towards the Kaptembwa area.
During the pursuit, detectives deflated the vehicle’s right front tyre. Despite the damage, the suspect continued driving towards the 140 Area before abandoning the vehicle in a vacant plot near Kaptembwa Police Station and attempting to flee.
The driver, identified as David Muraya, 35, was swiftly cornered and arrested by the pursuing officers.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of thirteen sacks containing dry green plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 272 kilograms and valued at about Sh8,160,000.
The suspect remains in police custody pending arraignment in court on Monday, March 16, 2026.
Elsewhere, detectives from DCI Kuria East, working jointly with officers from Kegonga Police Station, arrested three suspects linked to a robbery with violence incident reported on the night of March 14, 2026.
The incident occurred at about 2100 hours when the reportee was robbed at gunpoint along the Getrimba road while responding to a distress call from a friend.
The victim of this incident was driving his Toyota Probox in the company of his wife and another female passenger when they were accosted by a gang of about seven men riding on three motorcycles, one of them armed with a rifle.
The attackers robbed him of Sh320,000 that had been placed on the vehicle’s dashboard.
During the confrontation, he managed to pull out the rifle’s magazine that had been pointed at him, momentarily disrupting the assailant before the gang fled the scene. The magazine, loaded with seven rounds of 7.62 × 39mm ammunition, was later handed over to police as evidence.
Acting swiftly on investigative leads, officers traced the suspects to Korumagucha Village, where three suspects were arrested. They were identified as Samuel Nyamohanga Chacha (40), Yusuf Marwa Mwita (24), and Muniko Samwel Mwita (44).
During the operation, officers recovered a motorcycle (Bajaj Boxer) suspected to have been used in the robbery, a Samsung mobile phone, a hat, a shoe believed to have been dropped during the suspects’ escape, and KSh 36,000 suspected to be part of the stolen cash.
The suspects were detained pending arraignment as investigations continue.
The DCI reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, vowing to pursue all suspects involved in violent crimes and bring them to justice.
