Suspect dies in police custody after mob attack in Kajiado

A stock theft suspect died in police custody after he had been attacked by a mob in Kajiado Town.
Police said Boniface Mutuku, 30 was earlier attacked by a mob after being accused of being a cattle thief. He was rescued and rushed to the local hospital on January 12 before he was discharged and taken to custody at the Kajiado police station.
While at the cells, he developed complications and was rushed back to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. Police said they had informed the office of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority for investigations into the death. Such deaths are usually investigated by IPOA.
Police said they had received more than five incidents of mob lynching on Monday alone in an alarming trend.
In Kabras, Kakamega County, a suspect died in hospital after being attacked by a mob on claims he was a thief.
His body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.
Police are investigating the incident that involved Timothy Nandwa, 30.
In Musikoma, Bungoma County, a suspect was lynched after being accused of being a chicken thief. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.
In Lungalunga, Kwale County, a man was stoned to death after being found having an unnatural act with a cow. The man aged 19 was stoned to death by a mob before the body was moved to the mortuary.
In Kitengela, Kajiado County, a man was lynched by a mob on claims he was a mobile phone thief. The body of the victim was later moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
Police are investigating the incident.
And a rider was shot and wounded before being robbed of his motorcycle in Loitoktok, Kajiado County.
The man was admitted in hospital with a bullet wound in the spine.
The gang escaped with the motorcycle. Police said they are investigating the incident that happened on January 12.
In Angata Barrokoi, Narok County, a man was shot and wounded while on his piece of land.
Police said the incident happened in Kairoro farm and that the man was shot in the thigh by a gunman who escaped the scene. He was rushed to hospital and admitted in a stable condition.
The police visited the scene and announced they were hunting down the assailant. The incident is the latest in a series that have happened and left many locals in fear. The government has imposed a curfew in the area as part of efforts to address the menace.
