Police shot and killed a suspected thug in a botched robbery incident in Mathare slums, Nairobi.
According to the police, the suspect was in the company of three others and had been attacking and robbing locals when an alarm was raised.
This alerted police who were on patrol. The team swung into action in the December 20 incident shooting dead one suspect.
The others managed to escape towards Juja Road in the drama.
A mobile phone and a knife were recovered from the slain suspect. The locals complained they had been experiencing attacks from the gang which was attacking them while armed with knives and other crude weapons.
During the drama, one police officer fell and got injured on his left knee and hand. Witnesses said the officer fell as he wrestled the suspect who was armed with a knife and wanted to stab him.
His colleague came to his rescue and shot the suspect, fatally, in the process.
He was attended to at a local hospital. The body of the suspect was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
Police say they have deployed more personnel to the streets to ensure safety for all ahead of the festive season.
Many of the personnel have been recalled from leaves to beef up security.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said they have increased the patrols in all places in the country. He urged for cooperation from the public to address any crimes.
Meanwhile, police in Maranda, Bondo, Siaya County are investigating an incident where the body of a woman was found on the roadside after a suspected murder.
The woman had been killed and the body dumped in the Goma village on Saturday morning.
The body had visible injuries in the head, police said as they moved it to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
The motive of the incident was not known, police said.
