Suspected thugs raid restaurant in Kisumu, kill worker in robbery

A gang raided a restaurant and killed an employee in a robbery in Holo, Kisumu County.

The gang also robbed alcohol drinks from the premises in the attack on February 23 morning, police said.

The deceased identified as Edwin Kosgei was a receptionist at the Villa Del Sol Beach Hotel and Restaurant where the attack happened.

Three other employees including security guards were injured in the attack, police and witnesses said adding five men armed with pangas and other crude weapons staged the incident.

Police arrived at the scene and established the gang had escaped with alcoholic drinks.

Police said they were looking for the gang behind the attack and that the body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Three other murder incidents were reported to police and they remain under probe.

In Magenche, Kisii County, one James Otwoni, 45 was found dead on a piece of land after a suspected murder. The body had visible injuries and the victim is suspected to have been killed elsewhere before the body was dumped in the area.

The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary.

No arrest had been made by Tuesday, police said adding investigations were ongoing.

In Nguutani, Kitui County, a 32-year-old woman was found murdered in a rental house.

Police identified her as Carol Mueni adding she had visible multiple stab wounds on the left side of the chest, stomach and forehead.

The immediate neighbours in the plot claimed that they heard the deceased screaming for help Monday morning and while responding, they saw the suspect in the murder leaving the house hurriedly.

The deceased is known to be the suspect’s girlfriend. The suspect’s house was visited and he was not found, police said as they announced a hunt on him.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
