Rising to prominence at just 13 as the first Canadian finalist on the American reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance, McRae has since transitioned from a dance prodigy to a global pop sensation.
Her emotionally raw lyrics and dynamic performances have captivated audiences worldwide, establishing her as one of the most exciting young artists in the music industry.
Born to a Scottish-Canadian father, Todd McRae, a lawyer, and a German mother, Tanja Rosner, a dance instructor, Tate’s early life was shaped by her family’s global travels, including a three-year stint in Oman due to her father’s work.
Siblings
Tate has one sibling, her older brother Tucker Rosner McRae, born on April 11, 2001, in Calgary, Alberta.
Tucker is an accomplished Division I hockey player at Dartmouth University, where he plays for the Big Green team.

Beyond the rink, he is studying economics with aspirations of pursuing a business career and enjoys hobbies like golf and playing the guitar.
The McRae siblings share a close bond, evident in their mutual support for each other’s endeavors.
Tucker joined Tate on her 2024 summer tour, promoting her merchandise on TikTok, while Tate has been a constant presence at his hockey games since childhood.
Their relationship is poignantly reflected in Tate’s music, with songs like “Dear Brother,” written during the 2020 pandemic, expressing her fear of growing apart as they age, and “Calgary,” where she references Tucker with the line, “Still trying to get my brother to like me.”
