Teacher Arrested in Bungoma Over Alleged Sh300,000 Bribe for TSC Jobs

Lilian Nelima Buluma

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a teacher in Bungoma County over allegations of soliciting bribes from unemployed teachers by claiming she could help them secure jobs with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The suspect, identified as Lilian Nelima Buluma, teaches at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School.

In a statement, the EACC said Buluma was arrested on October 12, 2026, following preliminary investigations into complaints that she had demanded Sh100,000 from each of three unemployed teachers, amounting to Sh300,000.

Investigations indicate that the suspect had allegedly received Sh150,000 through M-Pesa as part of the suspected bribes.

According to the commission, Buluma allegedly claimed to have connections within the TSC and other government offices that would enable her to facilitate the recruitment of the complainants.

Following her arrest, the suspect was processed at the EACC Western Regional Office before being booked at Bungoma Police Station pending the conclusion of investigations.

The commission said she could face charges of requesting and receiving a bribe, contrary to Section 6 as read with Section 18 of the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.

“EACC remains committed to combating corruption and promoting integrity in public service,” the commission said.
