Teenage girl found dead after suspected drowning in river in a Kirinyaga village

A girl aged 16 who was missing for three days was found dead in a river in Kimbimbi village, Kirinyaga County.

Police said the girl had gone missing on June 15 before her body was discovered on June 18 in Nyamindi River. She had gone for swimming sessions in the river when the incident happened, police and witnesses said.

Police said the body was found floating in Nyamindi river within Katitika village. The body was retrieved and taken to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Police said they want to know if the incident was accidental or intentional.

Elsewhere in Rongo, Migori County, a man was found dead in a mining crushing site. The incident happened in Kanga area, police said of the June 19 incident.

Police said Dennish Ouma, 35 was trapped by a crushing machine and killed at the scene. It was established that the deceased who operated a crushing machine was on duty when the incident happened.

The body was spotted at the scene long after the incident had happened and moved to the mortuary. The police are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, police are hunting for a gang that raided and stole wheat from a stalled train near Nakuru town.

The incident happened on June 19 after a train carrying 16 wagons of bulk wheat derailed and stalled. The train stalled in Sabatia Maji Mazuri section before a mob emerged from a forest, cut the seals of one of the wagons and stole unknown amount of wheat.

The train was headed from Nakuru to Eldoret when the incident happened.

Police said reinforcement was called to the scene and managed to secure it. The train was later dragged from the scene to the intended destination, police said.
