Police in Limuru, Kiambu County, launched investigations after a break-in at a local bank where unknown suspect(s) made away with a laptop.
Police said the incident was discovered by the branch manager of National Bank of Kenya, Limuru branch, upon reporting to work on March 31, 2026
The manager alerted police after finding that the bank premises had been broken into overnight.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the intruder accessed the bank by scaling through the perimeter wall of a neighboring building before cutting through the bank’s electric fence.
The suspect then reportedly cut through a translucent iron sheet on the roof and used a manila rope to descend into the banking hall.
Once inside, the burglar stole a Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop valued at approximately Sh120,000.
Police say the alarm system had been triggered during the incident, prompting a response from a private security firm. However, no immediate signs of theft were detected at the time of their response.
It was only during the morning opening of the bank that staff discovered interference with several items and the point of entry.
A manila rope was found hanging from the damaged roof section, believed to have been used by the suspect to access and exit the building.
Detectives are now reviewing the incident, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
Such incidents are rare and police suspect those behind the same thought they would get money.
Technology has changed many operations in banks which has made it hard for thieves to access money.
