Thomas Kurian is an Indian-American business executive renowned for his leadership in the technology industry.
Born in 1966 in Pampady village, Kottayam district, Kerala, India, to parents P.C. Kurian, a chemical engineer and general manager at Graphite India, and Molly Kurian, he grew up in a disciplined household that emphasized education and hard work.
He relocated to the United States at age 17 to pursue higher studies, eventually becoming a prominent figure in cloud computing and enterprise software.
Siblings
Thomas is one of four brothers in his family.
He shares a notable connection with his identical twin brother, George Kurian, who is technically older by a few seconds and serves as the CEO of NetApp, a major data management and storage company.
The twins are the youngest among the siblings.
The two elder brothers are Jacob Kurian, the oldest, and Mathew Kurian.

Career
Kurian’s professional journey began after he graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University, followed by an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
He started his career as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, advising clients in software, telecommunications, and financial services.
In 1996, he joined Oracle Corporation, where he spent 22 years rising through key roles in product management and development.
He eventually became president of product development, reporting directly to Oracle’s leadership and playing a pivotal part in shaping the company’s software and cloud strategies.
After departing Oracle in 2018 following differences over the direction of its cloud initiatives, Kurian was appointed CEO of Google Cloud (under Alphabet Inc.) in 2019.
Under his stewardship, Google Cloud has grown significantly, focusing on enterprise adoption, artificial intelligence integration, and competitive positioning against rivals in the cloud market.
Accolades
Kurian has been celebrated for driving innovation in cloud computing and enterprise solutions, with Google Cloud’s advancements under his guidance often highlighted in industry analyses.
In 2023, the American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin (ASEI) presented him with its Lifetime Achievement Award at the ASEIcon2023 conference, honoring his enduring impact on engineering and business.
