Three detained after man dies from stab wound in Machakos
Three people were detained in connection with the death of a 22-year-old man who was brought to a health facility in Yatta, Machakos County, with a stab wound to the chest.
The deceased, identified as Samuel Katavi, was taken to the facility at around 10 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026.
According to a police report, the victim had a single stab wound on the left side of his chest, with blood oozing from the injury. A health worker examined him and found him unresponsive before confirming that he had died.
Police visited the facility and confirmed the presence of the body and the stab wound.
During questioning, the three individuals allegedly claimed that Katavi had earlier been involved in a physical confrontation with a man known to them only as Pato, who had allegedly threatened to stab the deceased and his friends. Police said the account was not convincing.
One of the individuals subsequently led officers to the reported primary scene, where she claimed to have found the deceased after being informed by an unidentified woman that he had been stabbed.
The scene was photographed, processed and documented. The three suspects were detained at Yatta Police Station to assist with investigations.
The body was moved to Mbaku Funeral Home for preservation pending an autopsy.
And a 55-year-old man was found dead between rocks in Karethani Village, Tharaka South Sub-County, Tharaka Nithi County, after failing to return home.
The deceased, identified as John Nyaga, was reported missing by his brother, Sunday who said he had failed to return to his house the previous day.
A search was subsequently conducted, leading to the discovery of Nyaga’s lifeless body between rocks in the area.
Police reported that the body had no visible injuries. It was later moved to Marimanti Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
