Three found dead after suspected drowning in separate incidents

Three people were separately found dead after a suspected drowning incidents.

In the first incident, police in Trans Nzoia County said they had launched investigations following the discovery of a body at Lukuna River.

The incident was reported on March 19, 2026 at around 9:39 a.m. where police found the body of an unidentified male adult, estimated to be about 54 years old, lying dead along Lukuna River.

Preliminary examination revealed that the deceased had two deep cuts on the forehead, raising questions over the circumstances surrounding the death.

The body was moved to Kitale District Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting post-mortem examination and identification.

Authorities have opened an investigation to determine whether the incident was a case of drowning or involved foul play.

Elsewhere police in Embu County are investigating a suspected drowning incident involving a prison warden in Embu West Sub-County.

Police said the body of a male adult was spotted floating in Rupingazi River in the Ngomango area.

A team comprising of scenes of crime personnel visited the scene and established that the deceased was Collins Psenen Maklap, a prison constable attached to GK Prison Embu.

The officer had reportedly been missing since March 13, 2026.

The body, which was partially decomposed, was retrieved from the river and examined, with no visible external injuries noted.

Preliminary findings suggest that the deceased may have accidentally drowned while attempting to cross the river.

The scene was processed and documented, and the body was moved to Kakwegori Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.

And police in Kisumu West Sub-County are investigating a drowning incident reported in Ojolla area.

Police said the body of Linus Onyango, a 38-year-old male adult, was discovered floating in Rota River near a bridge in Rota Village, Ojolla Sub-location on Thursday.

Family members indicated that the deceased had last been seen on March 17, 2026 before his disappearance.

The body was later moved to Port Florence Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Drowning cases have been on the rise in the country. Police say at least one case is reported daily.
