Three Gangsters Shot Dead After 5-hour Exchange Of Fire With Police In Karatina
Three suspected gangsters were on Sunday morning gunned down by police in a botched robbery at Karatina market, Nyeri County.
Reports indicate the three were part of a 10-man gang that attempted to break into a local entertainment joint.
It took the police over five hours to neutralize the suspects, as they kept hiding in nearby buildings.
Some of the robbers, who took refuge at the joint’s ceilings, reportedly fired back at the police, forcing the officers to lob teargas, flushing them out.
Karatina Sub-county Police Commander James Barasa confirmed the incident saying, seven others managed to escape.
During the operation, police recovered two firearms and four rounds of ammunition.
“We have recovered an AK 47 rifle and a homemade pistol capable of firing. Three of the robbers were shot dead but others managed to escape,” said Barasa.
The gang is said to have attempted breaking into the entertainment joint’s cash office.
