The trio had earlier on in the day robbed a trader of Sh70,000 before fleeing on a motorcycle. They were headed towards Mazeras when the police shot them.

According to police sources, the gang leader only identified as Kinyua had been on the police radar for a longtime.

Police recovered several rounds on ammunition, two AK47 rifles, motorcycle and cash.

In a tweet, DCI noted that the suspects were positively identified by those they robbed.

One suspect who was riding the motorcycle is in custody.

The gang has been terrorizing Rabai, Kokotoni, Ribe, Mwawesa, Ruruma and Kisurutuni residents and are suspected to have recently killed an officer during a botched M-Pesa shop robbery.
