Three people killed in head-on collision along Kangundo Road
Three people were killed in a road accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle along Kangundo Road in Nairobi on Saturday night.
The crash occurred at about 9:45pm on September 19, 2026, near a Total petrol station and PEFA Church, police said.
Police said the motorcycle was travelling from the Joska direction towards Kamulu town when it allegedly veered into the lane of an oncoming vehicle.
The motorcycle collided head-on with the motor vehicle which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The motorcycle rider and two pillion passengers sustained fatal injuries in the collision.
The driver of the motor vehicle, whose identity was not immediately established, was injured and rushed to an unknown hospital for treatment.
Police officers visited and processed the scene before the bodies of the three victims were removed and taken to City Mortuary pending identification and further procedures.
Traffic officers have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
This is the latest such fatal accident to happen involving riders.
Police said on Saturday night, 15 people were killed in separate road accidents reported. The victims included five pedestrians, four pillion passengers, four riders, a driver and a passenger.
The accidents also left 21 victims with serious injuries. They included seven passengers, seven riders, three pillion passengers and three pedestrians.
Fatal accidents have been on the rise in the country amid a campaign to address the trend.
More than 4,000 people are annually killed in separate accidents in the country, statistics show. Thousands other people are left with serious injuries which has a negative impact on families and friends at large.
Officials have been running campaigns to address the menace. Officials say the leading causes of fatal crashes included hit-and-runs, tyre bursts, and vehicles and motorcycles losing control.
Also overtaking improperly and failing to keep the proper lane resulting in head-on collisions are mentioned as causes of the accidents.
