Police in Mwea East are investigating an incident where suspected thieves stole Sh2 million and a laptop from a parked vehicle in the Piai area.

According to the police, the incident occurred after the complainant withdrew Sh3 million from a Family Bank branch in Mwea at around noon Tuesday May 11 before proceeding to Oriental Hotel to meet business associates.

The businessman reportedly carried Sh1 million with him into the meeting and left the remaining Sh2 million locked inside his white Volkswagen Touareg parked at the hotel.

At about 3pm, he heard the vehicle alarm sounding and rushed outside, only to find the rear left window shattered.

The cash and a laptop that had been left inside the vehicle had been stolen. Police visited the scene and confirmed the break-in.

Investigators established that the suspects are believed to have used a white Toyota Corona during the operation.

Witnesses indicated the vehicle had two women and one man onboard before the group fled towards the Embu direction immediately after the theft.

Scenes of crime personnel processed the area as investigations continue.

And police in Kabete are investigating an incident in which a group of suspected goons stormed a Constituency Development Fund office meeting in Wangige, causing chaos, property damage and injuries.

The gang also robbed Sh150,000 from a victim.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon during a meeting hosted by Kabete Member of Parliament Githua Wamacukuru and a group of mechanics at the CDF office hall in Wangige.

The matter was reported by a personal assistant to the MP, who said the meeting had ended successfully before a group of young men allegedly descended on the premises at around 2pm.

The suspects, believed to have come from the Gikuni, Gecha and Wangige areas, reportedly forced their way into the CDF offices while creating disturbances and chaos.

During the commotion, office furniture including a desk and plastic chairs were maliciously damaged.

The complainant further told police that he sustained injuries to his left hand during the melee and lost Sh150,000 in cash.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
