Tinie Tempah is a prominent British rapper, singer, and songwriter, born Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu on November 7, 1988, in London, England.

The son of Igbo parents who immigrated from Nigeria, he grew up in south-east London and later became one of the leading figures in UK grime, hip-hop, and pop-rap crossover music.

Known for his energetic delivery, catchy hooks, and ability to blend genres, Tinie Tempah has achieved significant commercial success both in the UK and internationally.

Siblings

Tinie is the eldest of four children and has three younger siblings, namely Kelly, Kelvin, and Marian.

He grew up with them on the Aylesbury Estate in south-east London until the family moved to Plumstead when he was around twelve.

His sister Kelly has been closely involved in his professional life, serving as his day-to-day manager and working within his Disturbing London company.

His brother Kelvin is active in the music industry as a DJ, manager, and producer, and the brothers have shared a long-standing connection to music, including freestyling together in their younger days, though they have never officially collaborated on a track.

Career

Tinie began releasing music in the mid-2000s, initially gaining traction in the UK underground scene with mixtapes and features.

His major breakthrough arrived in 2010 with the single “Pass Out,” which topped the UK Singles Chart and introduced his signature style to mainstream audiences.

This was followed by his debut album Disc-Overy, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and achieved multi-platinum status, spawning additional hits like “Written in the Stars” (featuring Eric Turner) and “Frisky.”

His second album, Demonstration (2013), continued his success with tracks such as “Children of the Sun” and “Lover Not a Fighter.”

Over the years, he has released further projects and singles, including collaborations like “Girls Like” with Zara Larsson and “Not Letting Go” with Jess Glynne, while consistently delivering high-energy performances.

Beyond music, he founded the Disturbing London label and brand, ventured into fashion with What We Wear, and has hosted television shows, including an interiors program on Channel 4, showcasing his versatility across creative fields.

Accolades

In 2011, he won two Brit Awards, for Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Single (for “Pass Out”), after being the most nominated artist that year with four nods.

He has secured multiple number-one singles in the UK, establishing himself as one of the country’s most successful rap artists in terms of chart-toppers.

Other honors include a MOBO Award for Best UK Hip Hop/Grime Act in 2013, nominations at the BET Awards (including Best International Act), and various wins and nominations at events like the MOBO Awards for categories such as Best Male and Best Song.
