28 Kenyan judges were yesterday given iPads and BlackBerry smartphones to help them in their work. Each of the judges was given the new iPad and a BlackBerry torch all of which are loaded with relevant software and materials relevant to their judicial work including the Kenya Law Reports, Holy Books, and the Law Dictionary among others.

Assistant High Court registrar, Lucy Njora, said that the devices are meant to help the judges work on the go. The Kenyan judiciary has also embarked on an aggressive computerization led by the Chief Justice who is a common figure on social media and a great user of technology.

The Chief Justice also launched a typing pool of 62 copy-typists in May to help digitize the court proceedings. The courts are also set to be equipped with audio and video recorders to help speed up cases. The judges are also now supported by the new recruited legal researchers who use the internet to dig on similar scenarios.
