A 10-year-old boy died after a fire razed down mabati structures in Rodi Township, Homa Bay County.

Police said the incident occurred on April 4, 2026, at around 5:00 p.m. within the township area.
Officers who responded to the scene found several iron-sheet houses engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Homa Bay were alerted and responded swiftly, managing to contain and extinguish the blaze.

During the operation, the body of a male juvenile was recovered from the debris, burnt beyond recognition.

The boy’s parents who were not at home at the time of the incident, arrived shortly after receiving the news and confirmed the identity of the deceased as their son.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the child had a history of epilepsy and mental health challenges.

Authorities suspect that the fire may have been caused by a gas explosion, as a gas cylinder was recovered at the scene.

Scene of crime personnel processed the area, and the body was moved to Homa Bay Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched further investigations to establish the exact cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, a woman was injured after she and two relatives were attacked by armed robbers in the Ruai area of Nairobi.

Police said the incident occurred on the night of April 4, 2026.

The victim was walking home from a nearby shopping centre in the company of her two cousins when they were accosted by three men riding on a motorcycle.

The assailants, who were armed with a firearm, cornered the women and demanded that they surrender their belongings.

During the robbery, the woman attempted to resist, prompting the attackers to assault her.

She sustained a deep cut on her right wrist and a stab wound to the head.

The robbers managed to escape with two mobile phones—a Samsung A16 and a Tecno handset—belonging to one of the victims, identified as Pauline Wairimu.

Karanja raised an alarm and was rushed to Mega Life Hospital, where she received treatment and was later discharged in fair condition.

Police officers from Ruai visited the scene and have launched investigations into the incident.
