Tragedy struck a family after two people died on Wednesday following a grenade explosion at Karare area in Saku Constituency, Marsabit County.

The victims, a father and his son died inside their house on Wednesday afternoon when the explosive went off, police said.

Police said the two died while attempting to dismantle the grenade, which detonated and killed them instantly, also destroying part of their house.

Police officers are working jointly with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to conduct further investigations into the incident.

Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo confirmed the incident and cautioned residents against tampering with suspicious devices resembling explosives, such as grenades.

He urged members of the public to immediately alert the police or security agencies if they come across such objects.

The source of the grenade is yet to be known.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Such explosives are common in the area and are believed to be from government agencies training there.
Meanwhile, two women believed to be part of a drug distribution network in Mombasa have been arrested as detectives intensify crackdown on narcotics trafficking within the coastal city and its outskirts.

Acting on a tip-off, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) stormed a house in Bombolulu, where 48-year-old Mary Achieng had turned her home into a secret stash point.

A thorough search led officers to a surprising find; 58 large rolls of bhang weighing approximately eight kilograms, all ingeniously tucked away in the ceiling of her toilet.

In Tudor’s Moroto area, 42-year-old Farhiya Hassan Moulid Ajorani was cornered.

A search of her house led to the recovery of eight large rolls of bhang.

Also recovered were 36 small rolls, 30 medium rolls, and 10 more small rolls of bhang, in her handbag all ready for sale.
