In a gazette notice issued last week, President Uhuru formed the tribunal following claims presented to him in a petition drafted by the Judicial Service Commission.

“In the discharge of its functions, the Tribunal shall prepare and submit a report and its recommendations thereon to me expeditiously and exercise all the powers conferred upon it by law for the proper execution of its mandate,” Uhuru noted in his notice.

It is reported that in the petition presented to President Uhuru, the JSC called on the president to form the tribunal to investigate his conduct which allegedly dwells more on allegations against the judge with respect to the 2014 election petition involving Governor Okoth Obado and his rival Edward Oyugi.

Also mentioned in the petition was the Awendo Sugar Belt case, where Justice Ojwang’ determined the case filed by the Town Council of Awendo in the Supreme Court in 2014 against 13 residents who were challenging acquisition of land by the Government to develop the South Nyanza Sugar scheme and expand Awendo town.
