Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai held a meeting this afternoon with troubled police officer Asbel Kiprop at the National Police Service Headquarters-Jogoo House.

This comes a few days after Kiprop asked to be relieved off his police duties or ‘misuse’ his gun, after he was banned from athletics following doping allegations.

In a tweet, the National police service said that the Inspector General Mutyambai termed Kiprop as a hero who should never be forgotten.

“Chief Inspector Asbel Kiprop is our hero, we. must never forget him,” the NPS quoted Mutyambai.

Earlier on, the Deputy Inspector General Police Joseph Kiget has promised stern action against Asbel Kiprop for using unofficial channels to vent his frustrations.

Kiprop, a former Olympics and World 1500m champion, took to social media on Saturday to vent out following his recent ban over doping.

In one of his tweets, the 29-year-old police constable asked to be relieved of his duties and for the service to disarm him before he uses their gun to seek justice.

“I pray to National Police Service to dismiss me Now. Before I use their machinery to earn myself Justice.Kindly IAAF come take your medals. I don’t need any on my house wall,” wrote Kiprop.

Speaking to the Daily Nation, Kiget said that “we don’t condone such behaviors” and promised firm “administrative action” against the athlete, who has since returned his firearm.

“We don’t condone such behaviour from our officers. Channels of addressing personal grievances are provided in the NPS rules and regulations and firm administrative action will be taken,” said Kiget.
