Truck driver found dead inside lorry in Kwale

A truck driver was found dead inside his lorry at Bonje Shell in Samburu Sub-County, Kwale County, in an incident police are treating as a sudden death.

The deceased, identified as Stephen Muinde, was estimated to be about 50 years old.

According to police, the incident was reported on Saturday, August 8, 2026, after a security officer at Bonje Shell alerted the transport manager of Ekati Hauler Limited that the driver had been found unresponsive inside the trailer.

The driver was reportedly found leaning on the steering wheel of the lorry and did not respond when called or touched.

Police officers visited the scene and documented it.

A slight bruise was observed on the left side of the deceased’s rib area.

The body was moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary in Mombasa pending a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Meanwhile, a total of 16 people were killed in separate road accidents in the country on Saturday night.

The victims included eight riders, six pedestrians, a driver and a passenger, police said.

Police said at least 30 people were injured in the accidents reported and they included 11 pillion passengers, six pedestrians, six riders, four passengers and two drivers.

The injured were rushed to various hospitals for medical attention.

Fatal accidents have been on the rise amid efforts to address the menace.
