Two children drown while fetching water from dam in Makueni

Two children aged six and 10 drowned in a dam within their family farm in Kathonzweni, Makueni County, while fetching water.
According to the police, the two boys were at home with their grandmother on Sunday, September 20, 2026. She had, however, left the children at home while she went to church.
Upon returning, she noticed that the children were missing. Their water jerricans and shoes were found near the family dam, raising suspicion that they had gone there to fetch water.
Members of the public responded to the alarm and conducted a search at the dam, eventually retrieving the bodies of the two children.
Police officers visited the scene and documented the incident.
The bodies were subsequently moved to Nuclear Funeral Home, where they are being preserved pending post-mortem examinations.
Elsewhere a 19-year-old secondary school student is feared drowned after he slipped while attempting to cross the River Tana in Mbeere North, Embu County.
The incident was on Sunday, September 20, 2026, police said.
The student was a Form Three student at Rubuti Secondary School.
According to police, the victim was attempting to cross the river by stepping on stones when he slipped and was swept away by the strong current.
His body had not been retrieved by Monday, officials said adding efforts to locate it were being made.
And police in Bungoma have launched investigations after the decomposed body of an unidentified man was recovered from a seasonal stream in Tuliange Village, Bungoma West.

Police officers visited the scene and found the decomposed body of an unidentified African male adult.
The deceased was found wearing a white shirt, while the lower part of the body was naked. The body had extensive decomposition, with skin peeling off around the stomach, groin and thighs.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was removed and taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
The body is being preserved pending identification and post-mortem examination to establish the circumstances and cause of death.
