Two police officers were arrested following the loss of a firearm under unclear circumstances in Mlolongo, Machakos County.

Police said the incident was reported on March 30, 2026, at around 5:00 p.m. by a bodyguard who is attached to the Speaker of the Kirinyaga County Assembly and based at Kerugoya Police Station.

The officer stated that on March 28, 2026, he travelled to Mlolongo where he met his friends who are police officers.

The trio later proceeded to Quiver Lounge in Syokimau, where they spent time drinking.

The bodyguard claimed that at some point during the night, he excused himself briefly, but upon returning, he suspected that he had been drugged, as he lost consciousness.

He further reported that he was later assisted by the colleagues into a vehicle, which transported them to their residence in the Mamluki area within Mlolongo.

However, upon waking up the following morning, the officer discovered that his Jericho pistol, loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition, as well as his Redmi Note 14 mobile phone, were missing.

Police officers launched investigations and reviewed CCTV footage from the entertainment venue.

The footage reportedly shows the complainant arriving at Quiver Lounge along Mombasa Road at 10:03 p.m.
and later being carried out by a bouncer identified and another individual.

The two were seen placing him into a vehicle which left the scene

Following the developments, the two officers were as investigations continue.

Authorities are working to establish the circumstances under which the firearm and other items went missing, amid concerns over the security implications of a lost police weapon.
