Two men drown while swimming in River Perkerra

Two men drowned while swimming in the River Perkerra, Baringo County.
Police said one of the men was trying to rescue his colleague from the swollen river when he drowned on January 20, 2026.
According to the police, the men had gone for swimming sessions in Kivumbini area when the incident happened.
During their mission, one of them was seen struggling to swim and seeking help to leave the water.
Another man who was there jumped into the water in efforts to rescue him. Witnesses and police said they both drowned in the struggle.
Other children who witnessed the incident rushed to the villages to alert locals to come to the rescue of the men.
Police said by the time other locals rushed to the scene, the two had drowned and the bodies were removed from the water and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.
The police added the men were from the locality and were identified by the locals.
Elsewhere in Sena, Homa Bay County, a three-year-old boy died in a fire incident in their house. Police said the remains of the boy were discovered after locals had contained the spread of the fire on Wednesday January 21 morning.
The child was with his other siblings in the house when the fire broke out trapping him. The other children managed to escape the scene. The mother of the children told police she had left the children to go for errands when the fire broke out. The children were cooking porridge then. The remains were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
And a speeding train killed a man who was crossing a railway line in Clayworks area along the Ruiru-Nairobi line.
The victim was crossing the railway line with earphones on and without due care, police said.
The Bluetooth earphones were on at the time of the incident and the train severed his head from the torso due to the impact.
The train was headed for the city centre from Thika direction at the time of the incident. The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy after the January 21, 2026 accident, police said.
On January 21, 2026, seven people were killed in separate road accidents in the country. They included two pedestrians, two passengers, two riders and a pillion passenger.
Police said seven others were seriously injured and included four riders, a pedestrian and a driver.
