Two men drown while swimming in Twiga Dam in Juja
Two men drowned while swimming in Twiga Dam in Murera, Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County, on Monday afternoon.
The incident was reported on August 24, 2026, police said.
Upon arrival, the police officers found two mountain bikes, a tablet and other personal belongings, including clothes and mobile phones, lying on the shore.
The bodies could not initially be seen from the shore, prompting the police to seek the assistance of divers from the Kiambu County Fire Department.
The divers later retrieved the bodies of two male adults from the dam.
The deceased were identified by their relatives as Emmanuel Mwendwa Kilonzi Kamba, 24, and Kennedy Mburu Kikuyu, 26. The two were said to have travelled from the Roysambu area of Kasarani to the dam.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the two men had been swimming in the dam when they were reportedly overwhelmed by water waves and drowned.
Police and scenes-of-crime officers processed and documented the scene before the bodies were moved to the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital mortuary, where they were preserved pending postmortem examinations.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a 59-year-old man drowned after he allegedly fell into Nyakibai Stream in Gatundu North, Kiambu County.
The incident was reported at Mataara Police Post at about 7:35pm on Monday, August 24, 2026, after the discovery of a body floating in the stream.
Police officers visited the scene and recovered the body.
The deceased was identified as Michael Kithaka Kioo, a resident of Mariani-ini village. His body was positively identified by his brother.
According to preliminary investigations, Kithaka had last been seen at around midday on Monday as he headed towards Muchakai area, where preparations were underway for a burial scheduled for Tuesday.
Police suspect that he may have accidentally fallen into the stream while attempting to cross a temporary log footbridge and drowned.
The scene was processed and documented by the officers before the body was moved to General Kago Mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are ongoing.
