Two prime suspects arrested over murder of Dr Mutiso, lawyer Mbobu get away motorcycle, pistol recovered
Two prime suspects who pulled the trigger were Thursday arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of psychologist Dr Victoria Mutiso and lawyer Kyalo Mbobu.
Mbobu was Dr Mutiso’s lawyer when he was shot at close range along Magadi Road September.
Detectives pursuing the murder of Dr Mutiso said they had made a breakthrough in the case and that of Mbobu.
This was after they arrested two police officers named in the murder, recovered a pistol believed to have been used mission and a motorcycle the killers used.
Sources said the DCI boss Mohamed Amin will on Friday hold a press conference to announce details of the breakthrough.
The pistol recovered was sent for ballistic tests to confirm the cases, if any it has been used.
The police confirmed the motorcycle they had recovered had been placed the scene where Dr Mutiso was killed.
“We have the right suspects and other exhibits in this case,” said a source.
More suspects were being sought on Thursday for grilling over the murder.
The arrests, according to insiders had solved a series of murder cases.
Four other suspects including a mother, her two children and a former Member of County Assembly have been arrested over the murder of Dr Mutiso.
A court ordered the detention of advocate Angela Mulwa and Nelson Masiga for 14 days to allow detectives to complete investigations into the theft of motor vehicles belonging to the late Dr Mutiso.
The two are under investigation in connection with vehicles said to belong to the slain clinical psychologist and mental health researcher, whose killing is also the subject of an ongoing murder investigation.
The detention order grants investigators additional time to conclude inquiries before deciding on any further legal action.
Dr Mutiso was shot dead in Nairobi last week in a case that has attracted widespread public attention, with detectives pursuing multiple lines of inquiry, including the alleged theft and disposal of her property.
The prosecution told the Mavoko Law court that detectives require additional time to complete investigations into several motor vehicles believed to be linked to the killing of Dr. Mutiso.
State counsel said the probe involves tracing the ownership and movement of the vehicles and establishing their possible connection to the murder.
According to the prosecution, the investigations stem from a report made at Mlolongo Police Station on May 4, 2026, after Dr. Mutiso reported that several of her properties had been stolen while others were destroyed during an eviction carried out on February 12, 2026.
Investigators told the court that one of the vehicles reported stolen was later recovered at premises allegedly occupied by Mulwa and Masiga.
Police further stated that several other vehicles allegedly taken during the eviction remain unaccounted for.
The DCI also told the court that detectives are seeking to establish the relationship between Mulwa, Masiga and Rose Mbithe, who is separately under investigation over the alleged destruction of property.
Mbithe and her son Chris were Monday detained for 21 days pending further investigations.
Mulwa is the daughter of the complainant, Prof. Ndetei, he court said the alleged threats made against Dr Mutiso before her death, taken together with the killing itself, provided a factual basis that could not be ignored in weighing the prosecution’s application to detain Mbithe and her son.
Police said Dr Mutiso had reported two separate incidents in which men on a motorcycle allegedly trailed and threatened her before she was fatally shot.
Dr Mutiso was driving along Ngong Road near Junction Mall on July 7, 2026, when two men on a motorcycle allegedly drew a gun on her.
She escaped unharmed and reported the incident at Kilimani Police Station, later telling investigators and her husband that she had identified the pillion passenger as Chris Mulwa.
The prosecution says Rose Mbithe Mulwa is the former wife of Dr Mutiso’s husband, Prof David Musyimi Ndetei.
The two divorced in 2001 after having four children together, among them Chris Mulwa.
Detectives have also widened the probe to establish whether Dr Mutiso’s killing is connected to the murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot dead along Magadi Road in September 2025.
Mbobu had represented Prof Ndetei in a long-running property dispute with his former wife over matrimonial assets said to be worth billions of shillings.
Investigators are examining similarities between the two killings.
Both victims were reportedly trailed before being gunned down, with Dr Mutiso shot while travelling in a taxi in Upper Hill on her way to work, nearly 11 months after Mbobu was killed.
Her death came 24 days after she reported receiving threats to her life at Kilimani Police Station.
An autopsy by chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor found she had been shot three times, twice in the head and once in the upper body, with severe bleeding and chest and head injuries cited as the cause of death.
